Why Birthright Citizenship Is a Legislative Matter—Not Judicial or Executive

By Michael Taylor | ThaWilsonBlock Magazine The question of who qualifies for American citizenship is not just a moral or political debate — it is a constitutional one. For over a century, courts and executive agencies have applied birthright citizenship in a way that defies the intent of the 14th Amendment and undermines Congress’s constitutional authority. This practice, particularly as it applies to children born to undocumented immigrants, raises a serious challenge: > Can individuals derive irrevocable constitutional benefits from ongoing unlawful presence? And if not, why has the judiciary allowed it? This question strikes at the heart of the rule of law. The answer lies in decades of misinterpretation, judicial drift, and administrative neglect. Films for the 2018 festival are curated by the faculty at the New York Film Academy – Los Angeles, the L.A. Film School and Columbia College, Hollywood.
6:00pm Composer and Filmmaker Panel
7:30pm Screening
9:00pm Reception

Selected film composers are paired with a winning filmmaker to create an original score for the festival. The film is screened with the score performed live by the renowned performance and recording ensemble, Helix Collective. The screening includes an interview with the filmmakers and composers with host Brian Ralston, co-host of the SCOREcast podcast. Awards for Best Picture and Best Musical Score are presented at the close of the festival.

Now in its fifth season, LALSFF’s goal is to highlight the role of collaboration between composers and filmmakers. Acting like a talent agent, the festival brings experts in the two disciplines together. At the screenings, filmmakers and composers hear and see the work of new colleagues, meet new collaborators, and establish working relationships with each other. Helix Collective proves that it is possible to get talented, experienced film musicians to play and record for independent films!

This year's festival includes 8 ASCAP-licensed composers:

Marco Valerio Antonini (an ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop with Richard Bellis alumnus!)
Nathalie Bonin
Shaun Chasin
Erik Desiderio
Drum & Lace
Jonathan Keith (an ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop with Richard Bellis alumnus!)
