Hailing from the vibrant heart of Durham, North Carolina, Robin "Sh8kes" Williamson is a multifaceted creative whose impact transcends art. As a published author, motivational speaker, business owner, and spoken word poet, Sh8kes brings a raw, unfiltered authenticity to his work that resonates deeply with audiences across the Carolinas and beyond.

A reformed gang member turned community advocate, Sh8kes channels his personal journey into every poem and performance. His writing is steeped in lived experience, and his delivery—marked by emotional intensity, clarity, and conviction—captures the soul of the streets and the spirit of healing. Sh8kes' poetic roots were planted early. Influenced by his mother’s own love for writing and inspired by the legendary Big Rube of Atlanta’s Dungeon Family (known for his iconic intros with Outkast), he began crafting verses at just seven years old. That spark turned into a flame as he delved into the works of literary giants like Langston Hughes, merging Southern rap’s storytelling with poetic form.

In 2021, Sh8kes experienced a defining career moment with the release of Chance 2 Change—his debut music project, narrated entirely by Big Rube. The seven-track collection is a poignant reflection on love, growth, healing, and family, serving as both a personal testimony and an invitation for listeners to find transformation through vulnerability.

When he’s not performing or mentoring, Sh8kes is also the culinary force behind Bull City Dawgs, a popular Durham eatery known for its local flair and hearty soul. Whether through a poem or a plate, Sh8kes is committed to feeding his community—mind, body, and spirit.
