Off Da Wall - On The Regular - 1997

 

Back to the Chicago indie hip-hop scene with a project which could see the light of day in 2023... unreleased demos recorded between 1995 and 1997 by the group called Off Da Wall, which was comprised of Raf a.k.a Rem Raf, Dread Mighty a.k.a Dread the Mighty Sine and Smoove One a.k.a Knowledge Born.

To make a quick recap about their story, the crew was founded in 1991 and was first known under the name Shades Of Grey. It was more like a Dance/Rap crew which toured with artists such like Bobby Brown, TLC, Mary J Blige or Shabba Ranks. Shades Of Grey released their debut self-titled album in 1992. 

After losing a singer and DJ, Smoove One who was the core member of the group, added new members and became Off Da Wall which was more underground. They formed in 1995 but due to street life they didn't start actually releasing music until 1996. The Demo "On The Regular" is the first joint released by the crew. They appeared a few times on the local college radio stations (WNUR893, WHPK,WKKC) at the time... Freestyling, DJing, and winning battles ! They also opened shows for A Tribe Called Quest, Masta Ace, Leaders Of The New School, Notorious Big, Lost Boys, Tha Alkaholiks & Rumpletilskinz just to name a few.
