Why People Settle for Homelessness

Listen   ///   Download
I guess, in a way, you can say that homelessness has always be a prevalent thing in our communities. A problem we created that we can't seem to fix. But, is it that we can't fix it, or that we simply don't want to. The fact of the matter is that America was built on capitalism and there is just no compassion for the poor. It's just not a profitable pursuit.

In a perfect world, we'd have a system that served the people. We would have a system in place that grows with it's citizens in mind. No one thought it was important for residents to have provisions that protects their interests when living in the city? Today, when politicians come together to speak on the homeless crisis, they are always avoiding the cold, hard facts of the situation. Landlords and property owners are profiting off of people's NEED for shelter. It's a business, we get it. But, does everything have to priced JUST outside of the average worker's budget?

For me, as a millennial, it all seems like an easy fix. I really don't see how rent control is such a bad idea. And the opposition on rent control is a sad reflection of the values we, as people, hold against each other. But, at the end of the day, this conversation boils down to the federal government of the United States of America. The one whom sets the standard for all cities, states, and counties to follow. One thing is for sure, something isn't working in America. And if nothing else, it needs to be talked about.

Below is a podcast called "Why People Settle for Homelessness". Mistah Wilson speaks on why people settle for homelessness in America and how the system is not designed for the well-being of it's citizens at large.
