HGR Cultivates Their Position By Jhantu Randall

It was two days before Christmas and the rain was coming down Records being set as the water hit the ground The City lights illuminates the sky showing its hazy tint Up on Union, many talents making their way to a networking event Different voices together in one room, traveling from miles around Sharing parts of their stories on All City Sounds. I was invited to an event at Hollow Earth Radio as I was told this would be a good opportunity to pick up some interviews right alongside All City Sounds conducting theirs live on the air. Never one to miss an opportunity this appealing, I looked over and saw the lineup that was expected to show. One caught my eye right away, Hard Grown Records, or HGR for short. An artist of theirs who I’d known for close to a decade, Anji D, had just released her single “No Time” just a few days earlier. Being able to congratulate her while getting to show the rest of the group seemed like a moment where the stars aligned, so we set a time to meet. I sat dow...

Kiru Kaiki – “Village Kid” (Album Review)

East Coast Emcee Kiru Kaiki drops a new album titled “Village Kid”, at 1st glance the cover shows a young kid playing the drums & as I start the tape I notice the punk influenced sounds with a trap fusion. When artist experiment with their craft its were magic happens as they end up doing something never done before or hardly elaborated sounds. Now residing in Washington State soaking up the western musical style along with his roots of the ever-changing NY circuit. STREAM ALBUM ON SPOTIFY . The 1st song on this album was titled “How You Live” the introduction was a showing the difference between Kiru Kaiki mind state being the odd man out but is that always mean you’re crazy of different or is it visversa. The young artist has an A-B rhyme scheme which reminds me of older tracks from the late 80s early 90s. Track 2 which serves as a skit were Kiru Kaiki explains in a deep voice why the program of the matrix prevents the true reality from being seen. As the album continues with “S...

Kaze Jones – “Kaze EP”

SoCal hip hop artist Kaze Jones is fresh off the release of his debut album, “ Inside Out” , and back with his new project , the “ Kaze EP “.  Produced once again by West Coast veteran Ariano , the  Kaze EP showcases the many sides of Kaze Jones.  His MC skills are on full display on tracks like “Step Back,” which channels a traditional 90’s throw-your-hands-in-air party vibe, and “Pink Panther,” a 70’s funk-inspired banger with double-time raps. The  Kaze EP also gets intensely personal with tracks like “Ready,” where Kaze professes his desire to become a father, and on “Live Your Life,” a slowed down joint that talks of overwhelming personal tragedies and overcoming the odds. “Let It Go” holds its own lane on the  Kaze EP , confronting the fallacy of the life-is-perfect façade that so many people carry into the world every day. The  Kaze EP   is a window into who Kaze Jones is as an artist and a human…listen now.

Jade River & Ariano – “Fear Is a Liar (Rockets)”

Fresh off dropping their sophomore effort, “A Child Trapped in Poems”, SoCal hip hop icon Ariano and Portland producer Jade River bring the heat one more time with the third installment of their collaborative efforts, “ Fear is a Liar (Rockets) “. While Ariano and Jade stuck to purer hip hop stylings of trap and boom bap on their previous two albums, Fear is a Liar is far more rock-driven. From Jade’s bass-heavy production, to Ariano singing his hooks as much as he raps, Fear is a Liar is indisputable evidence of the duo’s musical evolution. Tracks laden with electric guitar and classic rock vibes, like on “Hush (I Wait for You),” permeate the album. Fear is a Liar delivers an underlying message of perseverance and acceptance, even when the tracks themselves may seem filled with anger and frustration. Read between the lines and you hear the truth about overcoming fear, making peace with the things you cannot change and riding your own rocket to the next phase of life (a theme that pl...
