Read "Addiction’s Rage" poem by Jhantu Randall

Read more by Jhantu Randall Look closely! Don’t try to wipe the image clean Quit bullshitting! You know you can clearly see Dancing with the devil in the form of relapse When it comes to the drama of the situation The women, the whole package  You’re too weak to run, standard addict! Crazy, self-made situations that hold plenty of baggage Desperately convincing yourself none of it is yours to claim Don’t get caught up in that challenge  Thinking you're good? Here it appears to throw off your balance  Possesses the ability to cut deep while simultaneously striking you It’s an all out assault leaving all involved black and blue  Ravaged from rage Shattered, battered and bruised  A fatal attraction that holds a twisted, seductive kind of love for you

Read more by Jhantu Randall Looking back on things I thought I knew Seeing how a lot of it may never come true Allowing my own doubts to seep through Look into the mirror and ask what it is thats holding me back The answer is, myself I’m the reason some of the best moments couldn’t last Convinced theres always a murky territory Piecing together different moments that are shown before me Adding the spin to craft a coherent story Not purely for the love of the art, but for a false sense of glory Fighting self righteous indignation Compacted next to the ego spawning the things this combination breeds Staring at the crowds needing to feed off their energy Confronting the narcissist that exists behind everything The pen strokes the pages documenting this sense of insanity Let me always come back and escape into these pages The hopes of an idol shown through different stages This is the epitome of my own salvation  It’s the only reason I didn’t continue to go back to crowded cages

Marc Mac Sets Crucial Historical Movements to Soul-Powered Beats (((AUDIO)))

Article by Philip Mynar “It’s kinda sad if you go to Google and search ‘Black Panther,’ all you get is the Hollywood blockbuster movie,” says Marc Mac, the London-based producer known for his role in pioneering drum & bass duo 4hero. Mac is speaking from recent experience: His latest release is an audio documentary that tells the story of the Black Panther Party by layering snippets of speeches and news reports over hip-hop beats that sample ‘70s soul music. Mac was originally going to call the album The Panthers, but decided to distance his project from “cartoon superheroes fighting each other.” Instead, he named it All Power To The People—a phrase that would bring up information about “the struggle people went through” when someone searches for it online. al.divino Is Remaking Boom-Bap According to His Own Surrealistic Vision

Article by Jordan Commandeur  Hip-hop is in a time of transition. The music—and culture as a whole—are divided, and the schism isn’t just between the new generation and the old one; there’s also a divide among the youth. Trap may be ruling the charts, but a small, vehement contingent are valiantly upholding the traditions of the genre’s Golden Era. Boom-bap strongholds like New York, Philadelphia, and Boston have reinvigorated scenes and produced a wealth of captivating new artists, with the latter in particular experiencing something of a renaissance. Stream & Purchase "Baker's Dozen" instrumental Hip Hop album by Suff Daddy (((AUDIO)))

When I finished school in 1999 I didn’t really know what to do with my life. I had just bought my first computer and was killing time by playing games and smoking weed. One day an old friend came by and brought a cracked version of Sonic Foundry Acid. He said: ‘You can make music with this software!’ Of course back then I didn’t realize it, but this was a life changing moment for me. I used this music program for many many years - 17 years to be exact. It became the tool that enabled me to express myself creatively and to do what I love the most: making beats. Both my setup and my creative process have changed a bit since then, but basically it’s the same procedure as back in the day. It usually starts with a few chords, a nice rhythmic loop and some drum bits. The rest happens by itself.  I remember visiting the Fat Beats store in New York City in 2004. I was a massive fan. To finally enter the holy halls was a huge deal for me. I was soaking up the atmosphere dreaming about a fut...

Read "Diamond In The Mud" MANCE MAKALL (album review by Jhantu Randall)

Stream "Diamond in the Mud" album by Mance Makall When someone brings up southern hip-hop, what immediately comes to mind? Beyond name recognition, what subject matters flash in your mind? Is it cars, jewelry, colorful clothes and syrup induced bars that sound like run on sentences? Or is it a unique sound that finds a way to hit the very essence of your soul while the rappers lyrics paint a picture of life in this region? I hope it’s the latter, because hard hitting lyrics and potent stories are just a few things that come to mind when describing Mance Makall. Born Mance McCall on December 22, 1984, in the small town of Hayneville, Alabama, which is roughly 30 minutes outside of Montgomery. Now when it comes to Alabama, hip-hop isn’t usually the first thing that comes to mind but its due to this that allows artists that are from there, room to truly shine! Away from the glitz and the glamour of the bigger markets in the region, Alabama has a more down trodden feel to it wh...

Read "GRADUATION" album review by Ockley (R&B From A Wider Perspective)

Listen to GRADUATION album by Ockley In this new era it feels as if there’s no solid boundaries anymore. In many aspects, that can be a good thing, at the same time it can leave the landscape feeling rather confusing. In music for instance, our entire generation has come up hearing certain genres and recognizing them right away whereas now, the artists are willing to experiment with their sound. As a result many acts we consider rap actually sound like a fusion of 70’s rock, soul and pieces of neo soul. While risky, it does open the doors for something new, but it begs the question, what defines R&B these days? I grew up listening to groups from the 1950’s all the way up to the 90’s and fell in love with the music and how it had evolved. Each decade building upon the foundation the previous generation paved for it to thrive and change with the times. I’d be lying if I said I knew which R&B acts stand out today because at this point every genre, from hip hop to country seems to ...
