Who Remembers Playing KickBall in School #WhenWeWereKids ???

Kickball in elementary school was like the ultimate sport during recess. We loved it so much we even continued to play throughout middle school. Those days have come and gone for the 90s baby generation. And it remains a fond memory of our childhood #WhenWeWereKids @thawilsonMAG

Read "Baby will you meet me at the alter?" poem by Ernest Peace

More by Ernest Peace Baby will you meet me at the alter? I will not fumble or faulter in my words, my unconditional love, total attention and affection is what you deserve. My love, your love, becomes our love, that is united as one, shining through the shadows of darkness to manifest our light that is bright as the sun. Say it is so, me and you walking through that door,we are gathered together forever in Holy Matrimony, our souls is united once more. Our hearts beat in unison to the melodies of sacred love, let's bless this marriage with the name of Jesus Christ and our Merciful God above. Eloquently, Ernest Peace

Pasadena may build overpass at Gold Line on California Blvd

By STEVE SCAUZILLO Pasadenans have a love-hate relationship with the Gold Line. They love the convenience of a train whisking them to Los Angeles from six stations throughout the Crown City. However, when the train emerges from its underground lair and crosses Del Mar Boulevard, California Boulevard and Glenarm Street at street level, the sentiments of motorists mired at the downed gates similarly take a turn. In fact, those waiting three or more minutes or several signal cycles may curse the train as they jockey from lane to lane to find a quicker way to cross. “As much as a I love the Gold Line, it certainly has bisected our city during rush hour,” Pasadena City Councilman Andy Wilson said. “It is part of the bigger narrative of city congestion.” Read more...

A Look at New Shopping Center coming to Jordan Downs

By Bianca Barragan Construction is underway on the shops and supermarket at the Jordan Downs public housing project in Watts, and a new rendering by Nadel Architects offers an early glimpse of what residents can expect. The shopping center is a vital part of the redevelopment of Jordan Downs. Opened in 1944, it hasn’t seen any new commercial development in more than 50 years, according to Los Angeles City Councilmember Joe Buscaino, whose district includes the public housing project. Called Jordan Downs Plaza , the retail center will sit at Alameda and Century Boulevard, with storefronts encircling a central parking lot. It will hold shops, a grocery store, a gym, and dining options, along with “community living room”-inspired gathering areas and a “pedestrian-friendly” environment, says an announcement from Nadel Architects. Read "There Is More To Me" poem by Ernest Peace

More from Ernest Peace You have, defined me by the opinions of the masses, your mental picture of me is, one who is unintelligent, pants sagging, violent, dysfunctional, cold-hearted and walking through life with a lack of passion. Acting, as if my shit don't stink (Hold up,wait hold a sec!), " My shit don't stink!" I will, forever hold my head up high and I, no longer will allow myself to be caught within the snares of the dictates of the people, who is incapable of seeing the truth, even when the picture is see-through. I don't need you but the truth is, I do need you.... You have, made me feel as if, my record being marred by this statement called felony, I would never be able to stand respectfully, in this system called society but I beg to differ because within me there is the will and desire to rise above the odds, rise above the picture frame that you have enclosed me in. My landscape is a scenery that is ever unfolding, displaying such beauty and promis...

Read "The Essence of Beauty" poem by Ernest Peace

More from Ernest Peace Some people say that Beauty is only skin deep and other's are of the opinion that Beauty dwells from the eyes of He or She that beholds, magnified impressions, of such a type of attraction, that inadvertently sparks from ones own soul. Beauty lies within all: whether short, fat, dark, light or tall. Beauty is synonymous with love, as they both transcends through creation, Beauty is one mans beginnings and at the same time, the next mans final destination! Beauty is perfection, when it is, as it is, leaving it untainted, Beauty is the reflection of an artists desire when being painted. Eloquently, Ernest Peace

The Prodigal Child of Pasadena (Album Review by Jhantu Randall)

I met up with the current subject for this article, Bing Bing on a Saturday evening at Nate’s Chicken and Waffles in Seattle. Before I get too far ahead of myself, Bing Bing is the stage name of Michael Taylor, the man who brought me in and gave me an opportunity at ThaWilsonBlock Magazine. With that explanation stated up front, this article is the perfect test as I’ve covered artists, live performances, and entrepreneurs and this man is a culmination of all 3. From creating a publication that promotes local artists and events that highlight the culture, to a podcast that gives listeners a chance to hear the voice of an unheard star before they make their mark, Hip Hop is the lifeblood that tells the hustlers’ story. It gives a voice to the voiceless, the underclass that's routinely propped up as pawns and then forced to carry the burden of feeling forgotten. It’s these precise circumstances that fuel an indescribable desire to rise above the position your were given, live the Amer...

Rap Trapped in Radio Silence by Jhantu Randall

I first fell in love with Taleb Kweli’s music when I heard the song Hater Playa on the Black Star album with him and Mos Def. There was something about his delivery that I just gravitated to. When I first heard the song 4 woman on his train of thought album under the group name Reflection Eternal (collaboration with him and producer Hi-Tek) where he sampled Nina Simone’s song of the same name. I’ve been a fan of his, but even though all his work is good, his album Eardrum from 2007 has always been the standout for me. That was until he released his album Radio Silence earlier this year. Admittedly, I was a bit surprised by this release. While Kweli has never been out of the conversation for me, I was apprehensive to say he had another project that felt complete to me. Upon my first listen, my expectations were surpassed by the sound of this project. With a feature from Anderson Paak he launched this off perfectly. Kweli’s sharp and enigmatic flow seems to be able to adapt to every uni...

Producer Carl Madison presents "I'm Da Producer, He's Da Rapper" (((AUDIO)))

Philadelphia producer Carl Madison pays tribute to West Philly's own hip-hop legend Will Smith. “I'm da Producer, He's da Rapper” fuses Will's classic flow and Madison's raw and gritty approach, thus giving us a new interpretation of the Fresh Prince that the fans will appreciate and love. So what better way to say Happy “50th” Birthday to the Fresh Prince, than by dropping a tribute/remix project on Will Smith’s birthday by Philly's own Carl Madison. Angie Maserati Presents "Love" The Album (((STREAM)))

California songstress releases her new album titled "Love." The album is filled with enticing vocals with blended sounds of R&B, Reggae, and even Pop, so make sure you have your dancing shoes on! Much can be said about the inspiration for Angie Maserati’s newly released “Love” album. Back in 2007 the songstress embarked on her first trip to Italy and immediately fell in love with the people and the culture. “There was something about the language when spoken that thrilled me and awakened my spirit.” Leaving Italy left sort of a “Cinderella” effect on Maserati and years later in NYC her fairy tale turned reality. Maserati had the honor of meeting the legendary group, The Roots. They were so charmed by her energy and passion for music they invited her to their show as VIP. After the show, still charmed, the group invited Maserati back to the recording studio. “I was completely inspired and motivated, and grateful for the wisdom and music tips they shared with me.” She could...

Long Island MC M.O.U.F Releases New Album "Move Over U Finished" (((STREAM)))

One might say M.O.U.F was born into the culture of Hip Hop. He moved from the Bronx to Manhattan on the same street Juice, Sugar Hill, and Jungle Fever were filmed, back to the Bronx again. He also had an incisive ear for music at an early age that transformed into a passion and fascination once he witnessed his brother create wizardry on the turntables. Heavily influenced by his mother and Redman, M.O.U.F set out to make a name for himself in the music industry and in Hip Hop. “I am going to make a better life for myself and my family, I have a story to tell.” That began the making of M.O.U.F, not just a name but a movement which stands for Move Over U Finished. He released his debut and self-titled album “M.O.U.F” as a lyrical, heavy hitting introduction to New York and the world. Immediately embraced by fans, Hip Hop communities, and the music industry as a whole, it was evident his passion and fascination quickly turned into a career. From his debut album he went on to release s...
