Farewell Pops, RIP John Witherspoon By Jhantu Randall

If you’re a person born in the 1980s you were blessed to see actor and comedian, John Witherspoon really reach his prime. A comedians comedian, Witherspoon had the rare ability to make almost every line he said a potential quotable. For many “Bang, Bang, Bang,” was his catchphrase as he used it playing Pops in The Wayan’s Bros sitcom although that routine was done years earlier in his role in Robert Townsend’s 1987 film “Hollywood Shuffle.” His first major role was that of Ice Cube’s father, Willie Jones in the Friday series and even tough he continued to do cameos and supporting roles, he managed to reintroduce himself to a new generation playing the voice of Grand dad in Aaron Mcgruder’s “Boondocks” cartoon.  Born John Weatherspoon in Detroit, Michigan on January 27, 1942, he was one of 11 children. His elder brother William became a songwriter for Motown, writing the lyrics to the 1966 hit song “What Becomes of the Brokenhearted.” Witherspoon had an affinity with music as he was...

TM4L – “No Cap”

TM4L broken down to TouchMoney 4Life is a rap group out of Tarpon Springs, Florida hitting the scene with some young and ruthless energy. Not too many opportunities are given to minorities in Tarpon Springs, TM4L goes on to say, “In our community, you are either trapping, rapping, or playing some type of sport, in hopes of providing a better life for your family, like any other person from the gutta. The type of music we make is relatable to anyone that was raised in the struggle and has been through the ups and downs while “thuggin” in the streets. We pride ourselves on our sound and authenticity of our music, because you can’t compare our sound to any rising Florida artist nor one of the past.” The focus is rap and a better life, after just starting to take this rap thing serious last year before two members of the group were incarcerated and fighting two attempted murder in the first-degree charges. The members have recently been released and acquitted of all charges and are offici...

Myke the Kid – “Alicia Key$” (Video)

Readying his ’Smoke N Listen’ EP for January 15. West Coast upriser Myke The Kid drops his latest visual yet for the new hit, “Alicia Key$”. A tease for his upcoming release, “Alicia Key$” is an extension to last month’s debut. Hailing from the middle of Georgia and now residing in San Diego California, Myke The Kid grew up in the church and was heavily influenced by the musical impact he experienced being a product of that environment. Myke has a conscious yet witty punch with his pen delivered over a southern rap/ west coast funk sound. Myke is especially excited about this project because he had the opportunity to work alongside one of the greatest musician/producer TERRACE MARTIN. Terrace co-produced the entire EP and also has vocals that you’ll hear throughout the project. Vedo The Singer Ft. Inayah Lamis – “Yvette”

Singer/songwriter VEDO comes from a long list of credible musical accomplishments, including contributions on two of Chris Brown’s LPs (Heartbreak on a Full Moon and Indigo); multiple hit songs for K-Pop stars EXO, Lay, NCT 127, and SHINee; and a co-write on Lil Dicky’s “Freaky Friday.” It’s no surprise his latest release “Yvette” is highly anticipated. In true R&B fashion, the first verse of “Yvette” came from a freestyle. Vedo envisioned scenes from the 2001 movie “Baby Boy,” specifically the romance between characters Joseph Summers and Yvette, and he knew he wanted to depict that kind of raw yet committed storyline, one of fighting, breaking up, and them making up. Vedo’s playful lyrics are supported by references from the film, singing, “I put it down, you know how this goes / then when we done she fix them tacos.” The track features singer Inayah Lamis, who closes the song out as our Yvette. VEDO was searching for a very particular kind of feature: “She had to be ghetto but ...

SevidemiC – “Bending Teeth” (EP Review)

SevidemiC is a rapper from Compton, California that performs his own style of music called “zombie hop”. The man has released a handful of projects throughout the 2010s, but his biggest breakthrough yet wasn’t until this year when he signed to Lyrikal Snuff Productionz & dropped his 7th EP Xenogod this past March. But with Halloween being 6 days away, Sev has decided to give fans yet another EP. The opener “Groundfall” talks about how he came to fuck shit up over a glitchy yet moody beat & the song “Solipsistia” right after is an annoyingly repetitive club joint which I completely get, but it just doesn’t do anything for this reviewer personally. The next track “Get Off Me” though is a completely off the wall banger both lyrically & sonically while the song “Zedicine” is another party starter like “Solipsistia”, except SevidemiC’s performances are more captivating & the electro-funk instrumental is infectious. The track “Nip / Tucc” is basically a “fuck everyone” ant...
