Who Was Claudette Colvin?

Claudette Colvin (born September 5, 1939) is a pioneer of the Civil Rights Movement . On March 2, 1955, she was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a bus in segregated Montgomery, Alabama , nine months prior to Rosa Parks . Colvin was among the five plaintiffs originally included in the federal court case filed by civil rights attorney Fred Gray on February 1, 1956 , as Browder v. Gayle , and she testified before the three-judge panel that heard the case in the United States District Court . On June 13, 1956, the judges determined that the state and local laws requiring bus segregation in Alabama were unconstitutional. The case went to the United States Supreme Court , which upheld their ruling on December 17, 1956. Colvin was the last witness to testify. Three days later, the Supreme Court issued an order to Montgomery and the state of Alabama to end bus segregation, and the Montgomery Bus Boycott was called off. Learn More about Claudette Colvin...

Who Was Ernesto "Che" Guevara?

(June 14, 1928 – October 9, 1967) Ernesto "Che" Guevara was an Argentine   Marxist revolutionary , physician , author, guerrilla leader, diplomat and military theorist . A major figure of the Cuban Revolution , his stylized visage has become a ubiquitous counter cultural symbol of rebellion and global insignia in popular culture . As a young medical student , Guevara traveled throughout South America and was radicalized by the poverty, hunger and disease he witnessed. His burgeoning desire to help overturn what he saw as the capitalist exploitation of Latin America by the United States prompted his involvement in Guatemala 's social reforms under President Jacobo Árbenz , whose eventual CIA-assisted overthrow at the behest of the United Fruit Company solidified Guevara's political ideology. Later in Mexico City , Guevara met Raúl and Fidel Castro , joined their 26th of July Movement and sailed to Cuba aboard the yacht Granma with the intention of overthrowi...

How Graffiti Art Can Improve Street Photography

Before graffiti (or street art) was widely appreciated by onlookers and practiced by underground artists around the world, it was considered simple and thoughtless vandalism. Fortunately, majority of the world has caught on and taken notice of the beauty of these meaningful pieces of art often found on the walls of our neighborhoods. For many street photographers , graffiti art has also changed the way their photos are typically composed. With an interesting new background for their images, they’ve started paying more attention to that element in the frame instead of just focusing on their subjects, thus creating more creative opportunities for each shot... Meet Pop Art Painter "Ieesha Naeema" from Chicago, Illinois

Visit Ieesha Naeema's Website I am a Chicago native currently residing in Dallas, TX. I am a self-taught visual artist/painter working primarily in acrylic paint. All of the images in my work are drawn by hand. Currently, I paint musicians who have shaped both my childhood and adulthood. I strategically select color schemes that I feel represent each artist's sound/music, as well as the emotions I feel when listening to his/her music. Outside of my pop art celebrity work, I often paint my interpretations of black beauty, specifically focusing on the black woman. I use vibrant colors to showcase my ideas. Painting is therapeutic and allows me to express myself and bring to life the ideas I often carry in my mind. My ultimate goal is to become a full-time artist and continue sharing my gift with those around me.
