The Gloom Unit Are Coming Heavier on “Come Heavy II: Mo Heavy” (EP Review)

Image
This is the 2nd EP from west coast horrorcore duo the Gloom Unit consisting of Acetone Boogie & Frankie Goldie . One of whom comes straight out of Tucson, Arizona & the other representing Sin City Las Vegas, Nevada respectively as part of the Swamp Society collective. Acetone’s been putting it down for the underground for over a decade at this point putting out a total of 3 solo LPs as of me writing this review & Frankie has been establishing himself artistically by doing a couple features & even releasing 2 solo singles.  Come Heavy  last New Year’s Day produced by Devereaux was a phat introduction to the unit & are returning 12 months later unloading  Mo Heavy . After the “Mo Heavy” intro, the first song “Money Makin’” is a dark-synth trap opener telling everyone to move out the way so they can get to the bread whereas “Honey Berry” takes a tropical trap vibe to the beat getting on their Gloom type shit. “D.M.M.D.I. (Devil Made Me Do It)” heads ...

Shabazz The Disciple Drops “The Writing’s On The Wall” With Ed Nodz Behind the Boards (Album Review)

Image
Shabazz The Disciple , a long-time affiliate of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan, has proven that his presence in hip-hop remains potent with his latest release, The Writing’s On The Wall . This 13-track project, entirely produced by Sydney’s own Ed Nodz , is a deep, atmospheric dive into the world of grimy, conscious rap. Known for his dark and cryptic storytelling, Shabazz delivers once again, using his signature flow to weave complex narratives of struggle, survival, and wisdom. Ed Nodz’s production complements this perfectly, bringing an eerie, minimalist soundscape that echoes classic Wu-Tang vibes, yet with a fresh, modern touch. The album’s overall tone feels both timeless and urgent, capturing Shabazz at his most introspective and impactful. Among the standout tracks, UndergroundHipHopBlog.com highlights three fan favorites: “Wizard of Oz,” a track that showcases Shabazz’s lyrical prowess and his ability to flip metaphors with surgical precision; “The Watchman,” which merges ha...

Image
Buffalo, New York emcee  Jae Skeese  is back for the 4th EP in his discography. Starting in 2010 off his debut mixtape  W.A.C.K. (Women, Alcohol, Cash & Kicks) , it wasn’t until a decade later where he &  7xvethegenius  gained wide exposure as the first signees to  Conway the Machine ’s very own Drumwork Music Group . Rhyme Assassin Unleashes the Cinematic Visuals for His Street Anthem “Run EmUp (Told Ya) f/ M.O.P. & Ruste Juxx

Image
After dropping the M.O.P. & Ruste Juxx assisted banger, “Run Em Up (Told Ya)” in April of last year, the Zimbabwe-born, London-based emcee, Rhyme Assassin let’s loose the track’s cinematic new visuals. Shot in Brooklyn by Danny of Entity Studio, the video perfectly complements the high octane audio that pairs the burgeoning emcee with his Brooklyn rap royalty counterparts. The track also boasts production from underground rap luminary The Arcitype, whose menacing beat inspired Rhyme Assassin to reach out to his collaborators on here.  “I could only hear M.O.P. on the instrumental,”  he says, adding that it didn’t matter how many times he listened to it, because he could only hear the Brownsville bullies on the beat. Then, when he needed a third verse to close it out, he linked with Ruste, who  “complemented M.O.P.’s energy and vibes,”  Rhyme Assassin says. “Run Em Up” is the second single taken from Rhyme’s highly anticipated debut album,  Dedicated to ...
