Moemaw Naedon & NoCasino Team-Up for the Visuals of Their Trippy New Banger, “Burnt Sidewalks”

Pittsburgh emcee Moemaw Naedon and producer NoCasino team up for a trippy new single/video, “Burnt Sidewalks,” that’s a witches brew of eldritch bars and swampy production. The two like-minded artists hit it off after meeting at a Pittsburgh Beat Night event that NoCasino had started curating. They also shared a mutual appreciation for one another’s music, which led to NoCasino asking Moemaw if he’d rap over one of his beats for an upcoming album. The result is “Burnt Sidewalks,” a track bursting with evocative lyrics like,  “Burnt sidewalks from the slimedrops/ Of a martini-sippin’ trench coat cyclops.” Moemaw liked the collab so much that he knew it deserved the video treatment. After a chance meeting with visual artists from Dirty Martini Studios, they put together the concept for the “Burnt Sidewalks” video. This included gathering more than a dozen tube-style TVs and fully embracing their psychedelic side to bring their vision to life.  You can check out the video f...

Cheff Chop Debuts Two-In-One Video for New Singles “Stay Woke” Feat. Chris Rivers & Sadat X & “Khaleif” Feat. Smif-N-Wessun

Cheff Chop (f/k/a Chop Clark) provides a dope double-dose of new music and visuals with “Stay Woke/Khaleif,” a two-part video featuring a preview of his latest tracks. The two parts of the video were shot by Vicuals, edited by Digital 5 Designs, and directed by Chop’s own Chopworks Media. This provides a throughline of consistency with the visuals, which perfectly reflect Chop’s lyrics and tone as they transition from night in “Stay Woke” to daytime with “Khaleif.” At the same time, both parts of the video capture the claustrophobic feeling of living in a city, surrounded by nothing but steel and concrete. Lyrically, Chop is at the top of his game on these tracks. “Stay Woke” features the emcee at his most fired up as he lyrically decimates corrupt government officials. And with “Khaleif,” there’s a similar frustration, but it’s much more personal. Even better, the full versions of both singles include features from some heavy-hitters in hip-hop— Chris Rivers and Sadat X appear o...

Santana Fox Carries on Prodigy’s Legacy With Self-Prod. “Eye Candy” (Mixtape Review)

Santana Fox is a 26 year old MC/producer from New York notable for being the daughter of the late Prodigy of Mobb Deep fame. She eventually followed in her father’s footsteps making music of her own couple years after his untimely passing putting out a handful of singles up until the full-length debut  Girl Next Door  celebrating it’s 2-year anniversary this summer. However after seeing that her debut mixtape over here would be fully self-produced, I went into it thinking that she would level up artistically since her potential has already been shown previously. The first song “Space Cadet” after the the “Wicked Poet’s Prelude” intro begins with kicks, snares & pianos so she can flow like a UFO following the “Hotline” skit, “Vinyl Dust” keeps it grimy instrumentally talking about going viral to spite who used to be her favorite rapper snatching their sound back. “Fight Me” featuring Pohlosweater brings a synth/boom bap vibe to the fold boasting they ain’t seen or heard a...

G-Mo Skee & Stu Bangas Welcome You to “Filth City” (Album Review)

Richmond lyricist G-Mo Skee enlisting Boston producer Stu Bangas for his 4th full-length LP & the first since returning to Majik Ninja Entertainment. Emerging as a member of the trio Stampede & later the Inf Gang. He would drop 2 official mixtapes  Got Filth  &  Got Filth II: The Great Adventures of G-Mo independently before Twiztid signed him to Majik Ninja Entertainment in 2016. His full-length debut  My Filthy Spirit Bomb coming out that same winter to significant acclaim, but I personally think G’s sophomore effort  Chaly & the Filth Factory  is his best work so far because of it’s incredible concept & the instrumentals accompanying it (mostly handled by former Strange Music in-house producer 7). The previous LP  The Filth Element  commemorated his 30th birthday by proving that he didn’t need MNE until returning to The Dojo on  8 Bit Filth II: Hero Hunter  last fall & is now turning  Filth City  fro...

Why Music Has Taken A Backseat

Estee Nack Releases His 3rd Classic in the Span of a Year With Futurewave-Produced “Stone Temple Pyrex” (Album Review)

Lynn, Massachusetts emcee/producer Estee Nack joining forces with Toronto producer Futurewave for his 11th proper full-length studio LP. Emerging as a member of the Tragic Allies, he also branched out on his own my senior year of high school off his Purpose-produced solo debut  14 Forms: The Book of Estee Nack  & has since built a lengthy yet impressive discography for himself. Other highlights include the Sadhugold-produced  Surfinongold.wav  alongside it’s sequel  The Order of the Golden Fleece , the Giallo Point-produced  Papitas , his collab efforts with al.divino, the V Don-produced  B.R.A.P. (Born Rewards & Penalties) , the Griselda Records debut  Nacksaw Jim Duggan  & the Mike Shabb-produced  Live at the Tabernackle . So considering the high quality of those last couple efforts,  Stone Temple Pyrex  had to be as equally great. “Sunday Service”...

Kembe X Gets Personal & Explores New Sounds on Hippie Sabotage-Produced “Sleep Paralysis” (Album Review)

Chicago, Illinois emcee & Top Dawg Entertainment affiliate Kembe X returning for his 3rd full-length album produced by Sacramento duo Hippie Sabotage & his first in nearly 5 years. Getting his start over a decade ago with the debut EP  Soundtrack II Armageddon  & the debut mixtape  Self Rule , his profile would continue to grow off the strength of the debut LP  Talk Back  as well as an eponymously titled 2nd EP & the sophomore effort  I Was Depressed Until I Made This . He’s worked with the Saurer brothers a few times in the past, but they’re finally releasing  Sleep Paralysis  after working on it for a whole year. “Fade the Sun” starts us off with a lively danceable opener telling anyone who wants a piece of him to get in line whereas “Pole Vaulting” hops over a trap instrumental to talk about being over the bullshit. “King” works in a more rubbery beat to remind y’all that he’s royalty around these parts prior to the synth-dr...

It’s All About “Risk & Reward” for ST Spittin’ & DJ D Sharp (Album Review)

This is the 8th full-length studio LP from Oakland, California emcee ST Spittin. Emerging off his first few mixtapes  Lighters & Ink Pen s alongside  2nd Impression  &  Open Season , he would continue to expand his discography by putting out 3 albums  The Morning Show ,  Action!  &  All in a Day’s Work followed by a trilogy of EPs  Lucky 6 ,  When the Ball Drops  &  Retrofitted  ahead of the 4th LP, EP & mixtape  Boom! ,  Don’t Judge Me  &  Footwrk  respectively. We would later get a sequel to  Boom!  &  Footwrk  as his next 2 albums,  Cool Water  for the last one &  Summer Madness  being his 5th EP. However, I was interested in hearing  Risk & Reward  since Golden State Warriors deejay DJ D Sharp was behind the boards for the whole thing. The title track is a jazzy trap opener to the album letting y’all it’s al...

Frankie Goldie Makes Christmas Come Early with Debut LP “Vegas Winter: Jugg Motivation 101” Prod. by Devereaux (Album Review)

Las Vegas, Nevada emcee Frankie Goldie of the Swamp Society collective & the duo Gloom Unit alongside Acetone Boogie releasing his full-length debut. For about a year & a half now, he’s been establishing himself as an artist within the underground wicked shit scene whether it be 7 solo singles or the Gloom Unit’s debut EP Come Heavy produced by Devereaux arriving on New Year’s Day to high reception from the juggalos. But after teasing Vegas Winter: Jugg Motivation 101 for next week, Frankie has decided to let Christmas come early. After the “JM101” intro, the first song “CAKEWALK” begins with Devereaux who produced the entire LP working in strings along with bells & hi-hats talking about throwing money in the circle like it’s a seance whereas the lead single “RAWKZOFF” instrumentally gives me a bit of a Memphis rap vibe (i.e. One of my favorite groups Three 6 Mafia) coming to get his rocks off. “CODE BLACK” featuring Donnie Menace finds the 2 talking about being co...

“Bakin’ Soul” Ranks Amongst Raz Fresco’s Best Material (Album Review)

If I’m not mistaken, I believe this is the 15th proper full-length LP from Toronto emcee/producer  Raz Fresco . Someone who I’ve been familiar with since high school whether it be some of his features or his own extensive discography including the  Magneto Was Right  mixtape series, the  Futurewave -produced  Gorgeous Polo Sportsmen  album, the  Nicholas Craven -produced  Boulangerie  album, the  Cake  beat tapes or more recently the  Gia…À La Carte  collab EP with  Estee Nack from last summer. But with  Cookin’ Soul coming off producing the acclaimed  Supreme Dump Legend: Soul Cook Saga  for  Tha God Fahim  last month,  Bakin’ Soul  here seemed more than promising to me going into it. “360°” starts with a lo-fi boom bap instrumental refusing to let the mean city take your smile whereas “The Pure” featuring Dano & Lil Supa takes a funkier approach talking about...

Sule Makes Hackensack a Landmark with Black Soprano Family Records Debut “Written on Wides Corner” (EP Review)

Sule is a 29 year old emcee from Hackensack, New Jersey whom Benny the Butcher signed to Black Soprano Family Records at the end of 2022 after putting out 7 EPs over the course of a decade. He’s also notable for his guest verse on the  Biggest Since Camby  closing track “White Lives Matter” produced by Havoc formerly of Mobb Deep, which was one of my favorites off that LP last spring. However, he’s releasing his first official body of work through B$F in the form of his 8th EP clocking in at 24 & a half minutes long as well as 9 tracks. “Tommy Bundy” begins with a sample-laced boom bap instrumental from Nyckles & Harlem Zone who did the majority of the EP likening himself to the late DMX’s titular character in Hype Williams’ directional debut Belly whereas “Made for It” featuring Benny works in more kicks & snares with an symphonic flip asking if you were built for this shit if you got it but lost it. “Courtesy Inn” brings some pianos into the fold talking about ...

The concept of the duplex, a residential building divided into two separate living units, has evolved into a popular housing option in urban and suburban settings worldwide.
