Cody Coyote Gives Voice To The Voiceless In “Passage” (Album Review)

The indigenous Hip Hop community is a small yet growing scene with new wave conscious artists using their creativity to spread awareness for change. When changes are not made, and voices are not being heard for indigenous rights Cody Coyote out of Ontario, Canada is stepping in and fighting back with his music. Being Ojibwe/Irish descent with ancestry from Matachewan First Nation, he uses Hip Hop as a form of expression to give a voice to the voiceless. “ Passage ” is the latest album by Cody Coyote released this year consisting of 11 meaningful tracks. As we do in most of our reviews, we will highlight a few songs as recommendations and will highlight the lead single off the project, “Debwe”. “Helpless” is the perfect intro for this project especially after glimpsing at the album cover art depicting indigenous people and colonists fighting for land which is represented by a heart. In this song he breaks down his struggles dealing with detailed facts of the past, and also bring u...

Guilty Simpson Seeks Growth on ”Guilt” (EP Review)

This is the 6th EP from one of Detroit’s greatest MCs: Guilty Simpson . Coming up as a member of the Almighty Dreadnaughtz collective & a frequent collaborator of the late J Dilla , it wasn’t until late March of 2008 where he officially branched out on a solo career by having Stones Throw Records back his incredible full-length debut  Ode to the Ghetto . He has since followed it up with a handful of equally great projects including his Madlib -produced sophomore album  O.J. Simpson , the Apollo Brown -produced  Dice Game , the Oh No -produced  Simpson Tape  & more recently the Gensu Dean -produced  EGO  just to name a few. However, the hometown veteran’s seeking to deliver a portal between the listener & his Detroit reality in the form of  Guilt . “Looking for More” is a synth-laced opener to say sayonara to all the fakes whereas “Make It Count” with Jason Rose finds the 2 over a jazzy boom bap instrumental talking about burning thro...

"Little Homie" by Pableze (Song Review)

Buy This Album I love tha way this song starts off! Smooth. Classic. Song remind me of something I think I've heard before. That is, until I hear Pableze's story in this West Coast themed song. I appreciate how Pableze never settles for mediocrity. He actually has a message in his music and it shouldn't go unnoticed. I would definitely recommend this song. Reflection 2021 by feat Zahid

RZA Tells the Tale of “Bobby Digital & the Pit of Snakes” (EP Review)

This is the 5th EP from New York emcee, producer, actor & filmmaker RZA. Widely known as the  de facto  leader of the almighty Wu-Tang Clan, he was actually the 2nd & last person of the group following GZA to come out with a solo effort before their full-length debut  Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers  by dropping his debut EP  Ooh I Love You Rakeem  under Tommy Boy Records just 5 months after The Genius put out his full-length debut  Words from the Genius  under Cold Chillin’ Records. The Abbott eventually put out his own debut album  Bobby Digital in Stereo  in the fall of ‘98, which I personally think gets criminally overlooked because people were expecting  The Cure  & I think it’s safe to say it’s never seeing the light of day at this point.  Digital Bullet  was a worthy sequel too, but I can’t say the same for  Birth of a Prince  or  Digi Snax . He returned from a 14 year hiatus back in ...

"You And I" by Pableze (Song Review)

Ok, now this song right here is too smooth! As soon as it came on, it was instantly one of my favorites. Pableze's wordplay is on point and you can't have a project without a sincere song for tha ladies. Definitely one of tha best songs off tha project. The production had me thinking "where did he find this beat". I also must say that tha sound quality of this project is pretty good. I recommend this song for sure. Reflection 2021 by Pableze

"Paper" by Pableze (Song Review)

Pableze's song "Paper" featuring Zahid is a cool cut. Song starts out like it's bouta hit! It was nice to actually hear Zahid spit a verse and not just feature on tha hook. This that song you throw on in tha background as you light tha spliff. Pableze delivers another dope rap song w/ tha lyrics to match. I wouldn't call this one an album filler although I wouldn't say it's one of tha hits off tha album, either. Nonetheless, its a cold cut and I would recommend this song. Reflection 2021 by feat Zahid

"Improbable" by Pableze (Song Review)

Buy This Album Now, this song here is probably one of my favorite cuts off tha album. I'm drawn in as soon as tha beat comes on. Love tha build-up. With a song title called "Improbable", it was interesting to see where Pableze was gonna go with this one. I can see myself keeping this song on repeat. It's a definite vibe. And who doesn't like an underdog story? I would definitely recommend this song. High replay value. The soulful sample in this song is moving.  The worse thing about this song is it not being long enough. But, I'm thankful for this music and tha effort that Pableze put in to get this in tha hands of fans. Reflection 2021 by Pableze
