Dj Quik Photo By Loe Kee Phlicks Compton’s own, David Marvin Blake, better known as DJ Quik , took over Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve at 1720 , delivering an unforgettable performance that left the crowd buzzing with energy. Known for his groundbreaking debut album, Quik Is the Name (1991), DJ Quik has long been a staple of West Coast hip-hop, and his presence in the city was nothing short of iconic. As the clock ticked closer to midnight, Quik brought a dynamic mix of bangers from his extensive catalog, ranging from classic hits to more recent tracks, ensuring the crowd was treated to the full spectrum of his musical journey. The intimate setting of 1720 provided the perfect backdrop for the legendary producer and rapper to connect with his audience, turning the night into an unforgettable celebration of music and nostalgia. DJ Quik & Jason Martin’s 2nd Collab LP “Chupacabra” Gives What West Coast Hip Hop Has Been Missing (Album Review)

Compton producer/emcee DJ Quik reuniting with German-American emcee Jason Martin formerly known as Problem for their 2nd collaborative LP. One is amongst THE most underappreciated producers in hip hop who I consider to be on the same level as the Quincy Jones of hip hop himself Dr. Dre behind the boards & the other started out in the mid-2000s crossing paths with QDT during the sessions for Snoop Dogg ’s 9th album  Ego Trippin’ . 9 years later, they linked up for the first time on  Rosecrans  in the spring of 2017 to significant acclaim & are reuniting 7 years later to put out  Chupacabra . The title track featuring The Game starts with pianos, kicks & snares stellarly portraying themselves as 2 versions of the monster even though I respectfully think Game is corny for dissing Rick Ross & siding with Drake in his beef with Kendrick Lamar on “Freeway’s Revenge” to spite Dr. Dre for not letting him perform the Super Bowl LVI halftime show exactly...

"HEROES" music video by Macklemore ft. DJ Premier | Rating & Review by Mistah Wilson

"Macklemore connects with DJ Premier to start 2023 off with a vicious attack of lyrical supremacy." Rappers Who Flourish in Hip Hop Without The Black Audience Definitely wasn't expecting this to drop a day after my 33rd birthday. Seeing this as I was scrolling tha feed had me initially thinking it was some photoshopped clickbait thumbnail lol. Nevertheless, I put it to tha side until I had time to actually sit and check it out. Okay, Hip Hop. It's time we have an honest conversation about just how dope  Macklemore  is. It's songs like these that are tha reason I said Mack deserved that Grammy over Lamar, even though he Mack disagreed himself. The Heist exemplified Macklemore's true potential. And as an artist and fanatic myself, I was able to see how good Haggerty is and his potential for greatness. "Macklemore's line "Wanted the perm like DJ Quik" is relevant evidence in our conversation about how Hip Hop influences our communities...for b...

Q&A With Detroit’s Very Own TNV

Hey  TNV ! Please tell us how many years you’ve been making music? I’ve been making music over 25 years. I started off writing lyrics when I was 13 yrs old. From there I started to dabble in beat production and I was heavily influenced by underground Hip Hop, till this day it is the foundation of everything I make. Tell us about your first ever debut track you put out? When was this? Wow that’s was back in 2000. I was part of this rap group called the Driftas, the song was named Drifting. It was me and one other MC and a DJ. We collaborated and made a EP before it was even popular. What separates you from many other MC’s in your city? In Detroit there are some great MC’s. The underground scene has influenced me quite a bit. I would think my style of expression is distinct with my thought process and how I relay the message on pen and paper. I respect a lot of MC’s in Detroit, without there influences I wouldn’t have my own style. How are you coping with this whole Covid 19 situatio...

Conejo Returning To The Stage, West Adams Legend To Perform at Rhyme Fest 2025

Los Angeles is alive with anticipation as Conejo , one of Chicano rap’s most raw and enigmatic figures, prepares to be part of the line-up at this year’s  Rhyme Fest  on Saturday, August 16th at The Torch at the LA Memorial Coliseum. Known for his unfiltered lyricism, street honed narratives, and unshakable authenticity, Conejo’s performance isn’t just a milestone for his die hard fans, it’s a defining moment for his music career. A true product of L.A.’s underground, his journey from exile and incarceration to redemption has cemented his legacy as a voice of the streets. With over 100 albums to his name, Conejo’s career mirrors a life of defiance and reinvention. From his early days with the Harpys gang in West Adams to recording music as a fugitive in Mexico, his story plays out like a gripping crime epic. Yet his evolution from outlaw to big screen appearances (The Tax Collector, 2020) proves his narrative is still unfolding. In 2025, Conejo steps...

And we bouta review tha new EP by Jaye King & Tay Logan called "Cheat Code" . When I first found out that Jaye King finally dropped a project, albeit a collaboration, I stopped everything I was doing and ran it up! After numerous cameos and hearing latest releases from fellow Zooited Gang members, it was refreshing to hear Jaye King on his own project...with Tay Logan, of course! Because I was excited to hear Cheat Code by Jaye King & Tay Logan, I wanted to take this opportunity to write a review on it. Now, for tha record, I must say, ever since I moved to Seattle, WA tha first time in 2017, I've been quite impresed with tha quality of music artists in tha PNW are putting out. Jaye King has been no exception. So, without further ado, let's go ahead and break this albu...
