All are welcome to sign up. The mic will be open for every artist that would like to share and build a community with us!

Open mic-ers have 5 minutes max. In order to promote the variety of artists, open mic-ers are limited to 3 consecutive shows.

GUIDELINES
We have only two community guidelines: (1) Free speech, not hate speech and (2) Express, not impress. As a safe space for all who have ever been marginalized, express free speech and share your story!

Kapistahan Grill: 1925 W Temple St, Los Angeles, CA 90026.

LAST ORDER WILL BE AT 3:30 PM. Please support this Filipino-owned local business that serves traditional Philippine cuisine. Available to dine kamayan style (eat with hands) with 24 hour notice. They have lechon kawali (deep fried pork belly), chicken inasal (grilled marinated chicken), shrimp sinigang, halo-halo, and more! Variety of beverages is served, such as buko juice (coconut) and Red Horse. Tofu is available to be substituted as a vegan option.

Outside food is allowed. There will be good food and good vibes.

ACCESSIBILITY
Wheelchair accessible. No stairs. Chairs are provided, and people are not expected to stand. The bathroom soap is scented, but the venue also offers non-scented hand sanitizer. There is an air filter in the bathroom. Two bathrooms are gender neutral and open to use for all. One has a urinal and toilet and the other has a toilet. ASL Interpreter can be available on request; please notify us three weeks ahead of time if one is needed - we will do our best to accommodate your needs. Open mic-ers are strongly encouraged to provide copies of text for those hard of hearing and deaf.

PARKING
Luzon Plaza provides a parking lot free of charge and street parking is free on Temple St.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
There is no nearby subway station. Two #10 bus stops are an intersection away on Bonnie Brae St. and Temple St.

G YAMAZAWA, Emcee/Spoken Word Artist
G Yamazawa is an emcee and spoken word artist born and raised in Durham, NC. A National Poetry Slam Champion and Kundiman Fellow, G has been featured on Team Backpack, NBC, and NPR, and was nominated for Best New Hip Hop Artist by the 2016 Carolina Music Awards. He has performed at the Sundance Film Festival, Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, the Pentagon, and has toured both domestically and internationally at more than 150 universities and institutions. G now lives in Los Angeles, currently working on a 2017 album release.

HATEFAS, Writer/Poet
Hatefas, aka Hati or Hot Tea is a writer and poet born and raised on the eastside of Santa Ana. Her family's journey through the Khmer Rouge, refugee camps, assimilation, and Islamaphobia has shaped every aspect of the poet she is now. She has a self-publication in dedication to her mother titled, "For My Mother." She hopes to one day have her work published.

LEO XIA, Singer/Songwriter
Leo Xia is a singer-songwriter who writes about Asian-American identity and social issues. He was a Top Six Finalist in the annual Kollaboration LA Showcase this summer and also performed for Buzzfeed recently. He writes to remind himself and his listeners that everyone has a story that deserves to be told and heard. His recently released debut EP Hyphenated is now on all streaming platforms.

FilAm Creative (FAC) is an all volunteer community organization dedicated to the advancement of Filipino-Americans in entertainment and media. FAC combines “Do-It-Yourself” ambition with a pro-community attitude.

Eddy M. Gana Jr. is a spoken word artist and emcee from Union City, California. Graduated from UC Irvine with BAs in Psychology and Criminology, he provides behavioral intervention services. Currently, he is an MSW candidate of the Children, Youth, and Families Department at USC. He is ½ of Steady, the Chairperson of KmB, Pro-People Youth and a Co-Founder/Resident Host of Sunday Jump in Historic Filipinotown. Published in TAYO, he has facilitated writing workshops and shared his poetry in a variety of venues. Inspired by people's stories, he believes in the therapeutic elements of self-expression for personal growth and greater social change.
